Migrant Workers Legal Clinic

Providence Law Asia LLC is committed to providing access to justice for all. The Firm engages in a broad spectrum of pro bono initiatives that reflect the diverse interests and experiences of the lawyers in the Firm.

Recently, our Counsel, Zhi Wei Leo, was featured in an article by Lianhe Zaobao 联合早报 on legal aid for migrant workers. Zhi Wei regularly volunteers with the Migrant Workers Legal Clinic (MWLC), providing pro bono legal advice to migrant workers. The MWLC is a joint initiative by Pro Bono SG and the Migrant Workers’ Centre, which started as a virtual clinic during the Covid-19 pandemic.

In this article, Zhi Wei shared that volunteering with migrant workers’ causes is her way of expressing gratitude to migrant workers for their important contributions to our society. She also recounted her experience representing a migrant worker pro bono in a criminal matter. She successfully reduced his charge from voluntarily causing hurt to a lesser offence of committing an affray.
